Father’s Day. A day filled with so much love and so much pain. Waking up on Father’s Day without a father is like being shot in the chest. You wake up with a jolt and a pain in your heart and the pit of your stomach. A fear of dread spreads over you as you wonder how you will get through another one without him.
Every day is tough when you have lost someone special but on these special occasions it can feel like you are constantly being attacked and left to just lie there in pain, with no one being able to help you, no matter how many people are around you.

Usually I am a sucker for social media but on father’s day every post I read is like another bullet. Post after post hits you so hard you aren’t sure if you will be whole again. Yet, I don’t begrudge anyone posting, I am happy for them they should shout it from the rooftops how much they love their daddy. They are lucky to still be able to share this special day with them and I am so happy they can.
Social media is often my escape but on Father’s Day it is a place I should not visit. A place I look with just one eye open, hoping not to step on another grenade that hits straight in my heart.

Tell your dad how much you love him today. If you’re in a fight with him, make amends. Life is too short to be stubborn, and yes I am speaking from experience.
Wounds will heal and scars will fade but the mental pain will last a lifetime.
Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there. All the mum’s being dads and all the dads we miss.
Happy Father’s Day dad, I love and miss you more than words can say.
